Cowlitz County Sheriff's Office arrested James M. Wood, 58, on July 20, 2026, after he reportedly held his wife at gunpoint for four hours in a Kelso residence. Wood was taken into custody without incident after deputies obtained a search warrant and recovered two pistols from the trailer at 1500 West Side Hwy.
The female victim, who fled to a neighbor's home, told deputies Wood pointed a pistol at her, threatened her life, and assaulted her, leaving visible bruising. Wood had previously contacted 911 mentioning suicide and indicated he wanted police to shoot him.
Wood faces charges including Assault 1st Degree Domestic Violence, Unlawful Imprisonment Domestic Violence, Assault 4th Degree Domestic Violence, and Interfering with Reporting Domestic Violence. The Lower Columbia SWAT Team was activated during the incident.
