Cellphones must opt in for Community Alerts

🔊 Listen · narrated by Aiden

Cowlitz County Department of Emergency Management (DEM) updated its alert system for emergency notifications. The system now requires cellphone users to 'opt in' to receive Community Alerts, while landlines are automatically registered.

DEM recommends choosing 'Voice or Voice & Text' to ensure receipt of emergency alerts. For tornado alerts, Hyper-Reach delivers voice messages by default, but other weather alerts are better handled through a weather app.
